DUNRUNNIIN KENNELS NOW OPEN FOR BUSINESS

The latest additions to DCGR's emergency kennels are now situated in Kirkgunzeon near Dumfries, courtesy of Graham and Margaret Hill. Graham and Margaret always wanted to have the facility to have emergency kennels and when they moved last year, the opportunity presented itself to them. The pictures show Robert and Tom from TransK9 erecting the kennels and the resident greyhounds Magic, Darth, Timmy and Star, "checking out" the new facility. It is hoped that there will be an "official opening" by a famous person in the Spring, to which the press will obviously be invited.

Since August 2005 DCGR has, due to a lot of fundraising work, has now been able to purchase 8 purpose built kennels, including the 2 new ones in Kirkgunzeon, 2 are in Dalry, 2 are near West Linton, Carlisle and 2 for emergency use in Rockcliffe, Carlisle. This is in addition to the 2 kennels we have the use of at Wetheral Animal Refuge, nr Carlisle. These 8 additional kennels are already allowing us to rescue more greyhounds. The kennels are used to house Greyhounds as they come in from racing kennels or 'previous life', before they go into foster care, or move into their permanent homes.

By having our own kennels we can keep a much closer eye on the Greyhounds, get to know them as individuals and also avoid paying out hard fund-raised and kindly donated money to commercial kennels.

Our latest addition is a run for the dogs we kennel at the Wetheral Animal Refuge - these kennels do not have a run attached to them. This is a joint venture between ourselves and the Animal's Refuge, we were donated an outdoor kennel, so the dogs have shelter whilst in the run and as you can see from the pictures they have a large, secure area to romp around in.

Kennels use a number of 'consumables' over the space of a year - everything from dog coats to bedding to toys for the dogs, needs to be supplied and replaced regularly. If you would like to sponsor a kennel or help toward 'furnishing' the kennels - it makes a fantastic alternative gift - please click on the link below or go to our Sponsor a Kennel page.
