Ashlea Vets of Carlisle donate £520 to DCGR

On 4th February, Ashlea Vets of Carlisle, presented a cheque for £520.00 to the Dumfriesshire and Cumbria Greyhound Rescue. Each year, Ashlea Vets raise money for  two chosen charities - one for people and the other for animals. This year, they have raised £1,120.00 - £600.00 of which was donated to the victims of the Haiti earthquake, and £520.00 to Dumfriesshire and Cumbria Greyhound Rescue.

Ashlea Vets  chose to donate the money to the DCGR for 2 reasons - they had contacted DCGR last year when a lurcher puppy was handed into the surgery - the puppy had been abused and abandoned and the vet practice contacted DCGR to help find a home for the puppy. The second reason was that a number of the vets' clients have rescue greyhounds themselves.

The main fund raising was organised by Christine Stalker, Veterinary receptionist, Rowena Batey, Veterinary Nurse, and Kirst Barker, Vet. The money was raised by having Quiz Nights, and by vet, Kirsty Barker, being sponsored to take part in the Great North Run, and the Cumbrian Run.

Thank you for visiting our website.  Whether you're interested in adopting a dog, supporting Dumfriesshire & Cumbria Greyhound Rescue, or generally interested in greyhound welfare, we hope you will enjoy browsing through our site.

We foster and rehome ex-racing and ex-coursing dogs throughout South-West Scotland, Cumbria and sometimes even further afield!  During the last six years over 460 happy hounds have found loving homes.  You can see some of them on our Homed Gallery.

Our resident dogs are temporarily boarding in the Homeless Gallery, hoping to soon make it to the Homed page!

Could you foster a greyhound?
Do you have the time to give one of our dogs a temporary home?  The encouragement to help them adapt to family life?  The stability to be their first real contact with a world outside racing?  The patience to help them trust people if they have been abused or neglected?   Foster homes are invaluable.
To find out what's involved and how you could become a DCGR Fosterer ring Al Todd on 01228 674127 or email info@dgrescue.org.uk

Please get in touch to offer comments, enquire about greyhound rescue, or join our organisation.

Adopt a greyhound, sponsor a greyhound, foster a greyhound, become a member, help us to transport dogs from owners to emergency kennels, these are just a few of the ways in which you can help us, please get in touch to find out more.
